Panna cotta – en.Kung-Food

Panna cotta, which literally means “cooked cream”, is a delicious traditional Italian dessert made with milk, cream, sugar, vanilla and gelatin. Panna cotta is an ideal dessert because it’s very easy and quick to make, it can be made ahead of time and it’s amazing especially in the summer, being fresh and genuine. Panna cotta is not only a delicate, tasty and creamy dessert, but it’s very versatile too, as it can be served as it is, plain, or garnished with fresh fruit (berries, strawberries), fruit sauces, chocolate sauce, dulce de leche, etc. Before refrigerating you can put the panna cotta in molds or serving glasses: the result, at the moment you are going to serve this dessert, will be amazing anyway. My favourite is definitely garnished with fresh strawberries and strawberry sauce!

2 envelopes gelatin (0.25 oz per envelope) 1 ½ cup milk 4 cups heavy cream ½ cup sugar 1-2 teaspoon vanilla extract Fresh berries or strawberries, to taste

Strawberry sauce, to taste

For the panna cotta, put ½ cup of milk in a small bowl and pour the gelatin over it to let it soften. Take a medium size pot, heat the cream, the rest of the milk and the sugar until they start to boil. Remove the pot from the heat and add the vanilla, then gently stir in the gelatin mix and stir well.

Once ready, pour the mix into serving glasses or molds, according to what you prefer. Let the dessert cool down and refrigerate for at least 4-5 hours before serving; the ideal thing would be to refrigerate it overnight. Serve in the glasses or after you removed the panna cotta from the molds and finally garnish with fresh fruit like strawberries or berries, or with fruit sauce or caramel or chocolate.
